Traveling is great blah blah take the good with the bad blah blah traveling wouldnt be traveling without the hardships blah blah. There are a couple things about traveling that bug the living shit out of me. I loss all patience immediately and start to doubt the ability of countries to handle their shit. I say all of this knowing my home country is one of the worst but whatever I can still bitch and moan.
The overland border crossing, meaning the double border back to back you exit a country and you enter a country. Whether on a bus or on a train, this is a stupid practice of getting off said bus or train and going through immigration control, getting back on said bus or train, traveling perhaps 1min or perhaps 15min then getting of said bus or train again to go through immigration….again. If you are on an overnight journey you will probably cross these borders at the god awful hour of 2 am, at the very important hour where you finally dozed off into a deep sleep, abstructing any hope of getting SOME sleep. Can countries not be friends and combine the border cross into one event? Where you hand your passport in one room, walk into the next room and hand it again. I am sure there is some paramount issue of national security or whatever but seriously what the fuck. I want ease of access when I travel. I am probably about to drop a load of cash into your economy can you not make it easier for me to do so. I’d even pay a nominal fee to combine these buildings and processes.
On a similar note, the layover passport control on an international flight. There is also nothing more frustrating than having to go through a passport check when you are not leaving an airport and you are not staying in the country nor did you start in the country. There is no point, you are simply passing by for a couple hours and they must check your passport. They are rare but they seem to happen in the Eurozone frequently. I almost loss it every time in the airport. Just keep us herded into one terminal and let vagabonds wonder around kiosks and get hammered while waiting for our next flight without delaying these all important layover rituals…
