I wont knock the article for pointing out people don’t take enough vacation or holiday. Cant argue with that. Honestly, my biggest problem is with how people take their time off. Spending a week on a beach or at a pool is relaxing but I’ll always argue in favor of a heart pumping trip that creates memories, good or bad, like road tripping across the Pamirs. Which this article points out,
we firmly believe that you should make the most of your time on earth
Rough Guides
Truly inspiring words Rough Guides, but hey I agree. The thing they neglect to point out is the best strategy for vacation days – Travel Bonus! You can save your days by rolling them over year to year or saving them up in a current year for the day you finally pull the trigger and quit your job to travel for a year or years. Unlike sick days, your vacation days are money you have forfeited previously so if you do not use them when you leave a job, all unused days get paid back to you. Again think of it as a gift from your company saying “enjoy the shit out of your trip, cuz here is more money”
Pro Tip: Keep this in mind for those extra days you back into vacation/holidays that are there solely to relax on the day you get back from a trip. Push it, go straight to your job. Grin and bare it, chug coffee, or just call in sick that day because as I pointed out before, you are getting paid back your lost sick days.
